European Studies
The European Studies program focuses on the political, economic, ideological and cultural forces that have shaped modern Europe. It also examines the impact of European developments on Australia and the rest of the world. Special attention is given to themes such as European political and economic integration, European imperialism and its demise, the role of European powers in international affairs, and the rise of totalitarian ideologies and regimes.
European Studies at UNSW
Sydney and Australia are about as far away from Europe as you can get, yet European Studies at UNSW is flourishing. UNSW has long held a leadership role in European Studies in Australia, in both research and teaching. The university library possesses considerable resources on the area and current staff include several internationally recognised Europeanists. The European Studies program has a strong interdisciplinary foundation and offers subjects taught in history, philosophy, politics, international relations, political economy, literature and languages.

Program Information
European Studies is available as a major or minor within the Bachelor of Arts and as a stream within the Bachelor of International Studies program. The major includes nine courses from the European Studies program.
Courses are offered at both Level 1 and Upper Level; they are taught in English, require no previous knowledge of other languages, and are available to all students enrolled in the Faculty, as well as combined degree studies in other Faculties.
